Mathematics

Head of Department:  Mrs H Gagen

At Priestlands, our Mathematics Department is a vibrant hub of curiosity, challenge and achievement. We believe that every student can be successful in Maths given the right levels of support, encouragement and motivation.

We are an enthusiastic team of teachers who have a shared goal to inspire our students with the beauty and power of mathematics. From building strong foundations in numeracy to exploring advanced concepts with confidence, we celebrate progress at every level and provide tailored support to ensure every learner thrives.

With a heightened emphasis on problem solving and reasoning within both KS3 and KS4, we are keen to equip students with the tools to think critically, explore patterns and tackle unfamiliar challenges with confidence and creativity. These skills not only underpin success in mathematics but also prepare students for life beyond the classroom—where logical thinking and resilience are invaluable.

We are proud to offer opportunities that stretch and inspire our most able
mathematicians. Students of all year groups take part in the UKMT Maths
Challenges and other national competitions, achieving impressive results and developing their skills in a fun, competitive manner.

For those who show exceptional ability and passion, we also offer a Further Mathematics course throughout Year 10 and 11, providing a deeper exploration of advanced topics and excellent preparation for college and university-level study.

We welcome every learner to experience the joy of maths in a department where everyone is supported, challenged, and inspired throughout their time here at Priestlands.
