Physical Education

Head of Department: Mr S Gibbs

At our school, Physical Education is central to the development of the whole child. We aim to enhance students’ physical, mental, and social wellbeing through active engagement and enjoyment in a wide range of physical activities. We strive to create a positive, inclusive environment where all students feel motivated, confident, and supported in their journey toward healthy, active lifestyles.

Through PE, students will explore and embody values such as Respect, Determination, and Creativity. These core principles help shape not only their physical performance but also their character, resilience, and ability to work collaboratively—supporting holistic development both inside and outside of the classroom.

We are committed to promoting lifelong participation in physical activity and empowering students with the knowledge and habits needed to lead healthy, active lives well into adulthood. Our curriculum fosters a love for movement and fitness that extends beyond school and adapts to individual interests and needs.

To enrich the student experience, we provide an extensive extra-curricular programme that offers both recreational and competitive opportunities. Whether striving for personal improvement or representing the school in fixtures and competitions, all students are encouraged to discover their potential, challenge themselves, and thrive in a supportive and dynamic sporting environment.

Learning Journey

By the end of Years 7 and 8: students will have developed a strong foundation of core physical skills and physical literacy, with these embedded through a broad and balanced PE curriculum.

By the end of Year 9: students will have shaped their own PE journey by selecting activities that suit their interests and strengths, allowing them to follow a bespoke pathway that supports personal development and engagement.

By the end of Years 10 and 11: students will have developed a genuine passion for physical activity, fostering the knowledge, confidence, and motivation needed to maintain lifelong participation in healthy, active lifestyles.
