Music at Priestlands: Inspiring Creativity, Confidence, and Collaboration

At Priestlands, we believe music should be a powerful and inclusive force in every student’s education. Our Music Department is dedicated to nurturing creativity, building confidence, and fostering collaboration among students aged 11–16.

Our curriculum is designed to engage and challenge all learners through a rich blend of performance, composition, listening, and analysis. Students explore a wide variety of musical styles and traditions—from classical and folk to jazz, blues, African drumming, Bhangra, Gamelan, and House music. We also embrace music technology, enabling students to compose, record, and produce their own music using industry-standard tools.

We are proud to offer a thriving instrumental lesson programme, with tuition available on every instrument from bassoon to electric guitar. Students are encouraged to take part in a wide range of extracurricular activities, including choir, band, and music clubs. Several concerts and recitals are held throughout the year, giving students regular opportunities to perform and celebrate their progress.

Trips to see world-class performers visiting the area further enrich our students’ musical experiences, broadening their horizons and deepening their appreciation of live music.

Priestlands Music Department has also been selected to be part of the Lead Music School for Hampshire. This prestigious role allows us to help shape the future of music education both locally and nationally, supporting innovation and excellence in schools and communities.

Above all, we want students to enjoy music—to see it not only as a subject but as a lifelong source of expression, connection, and joy.
